ABOUT ADREC
Founding Ideology
Muslims in Europe have been victims of anti-Muslim abuse and discrimination for many decades. With the exponentially increasing anti-Muslim sentiments and acts in Europe and the rest of the world, it is becoming more and more necessary to not only support the victims of anti-Muslim crime, but to also create a platform where such incidents can be documented and analysed.
ADREC acknowledges that such behaviours against Muslims are the results of systematic and structural policies. We accept and call out any prejudice, actions, bias and hostility towards Muslims as ‘Anti-Muslim racism.’ We observe and acknowledge that not accepting such behaviours as a type of racism fails to capture the uniqueness of what Muslims experience.
As an Advocacy and Research Centre, our primary purpose is to manifest and to address this growing and urgent need of providing a forum for such cases to be reported, recorded and evaluated as a type of racism, while offering support and guidance to the victims.
As an independent and non-governmental organisation, our work is not influenced or in any way instructed by any government, though, with our work, we hope to contribute in shaping government policies to be more inclusive.
Aims and Objectives
As an advocacy and research centre, we aim to offer support to the victims of anti-Muslim racism as well as document and provide more representative accounts of anti-Muslim racism and the multifaceted risks to Muslim communities in Europe.
Our objective is to offer a trusted and reliable service for victims, witnesses or other members of the community to share sensitive and confidential information as well as feel comfortable in engaging with the service.
Through our expert-led research, we also aim to empower anyone interested in the field of anti-Muslim racism, taking place in all aspects of life. In this regard, we demonstrate how anti-Muslim racism is addressed and incorporated in national, regional and international courts; how European nations approach anti-Muslim racism as well as the needs and challenges of Muslims and how Muslims in Europe are subjected to such behaviours on a daily basis in their everyday lives.
Values and Principles
Central to the mission of ADREC are its core values of universal human rights and equality and diversity, which set the guidelines for our team and partners. We are a team of independent researchers from diverse fields and backgrounds, joined by our shared values and principles of universal human rights, which serves as the foundation of our work and our service.
With our mission to ensure universal human rights, we aim to empower, raise awareness and advocate for victims of anti-Muslim racism amongst all forms of racial hatred.
Our Services
Advocacy and Research Centre (ADREC) has been established for people from across Europe to report any form of anti-Muslim abuse through a secure and reliable portal. Our online application form and app allows you to voice your concerns and report any incident that you have experienced because of your Muslim faith or for being mistaken as a Muslim. Through our ‘Submit a Report‘ option, you can report the details of the incident you have experienced, whether verbal or physical. We advise you to add the location of the attack to allow us to effectively map the incidents across Europe. You can also report an incident as a witness or on behalf of a victim. Another part of our service also offers support and guidance by signposting and/or referring you to the relevant authorities/agencies.
